Privacy & cookies

How this site uses analytics, stores preferences and handles visitor information.

Your choice

Google Analytics stays off until you accept it.

You can accept or reject analytics, or withdraw your permission using Analytics settings on any page. Withdrawing stops future collection, removes this site's Google Analytics cookies and reloads the page. It does not erase data already sent to Google.

Your choice is remembered in this browser for 180 days. After that, you will be asked again. Clearing browser storage also resets your choice. If storage is blocked, your choice applies to the current page only; analytics starts off on the next page. Without JavaScript, analytics stays off.

Optional analytics

If you accept, this site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages and projects attract interest and to improve the portfolio. Collection is based on your consent. The Google Analytics script is not loaded before you accept.

Analytics includes pages visited, session and engagement information, navigation and project clicks, clicks to my LinkedIn or GitHub profile or email link, sections reached, and deliberate interactions with the Homelab map. Google also processes browser and device information, cookie identifiers, traffic sources and approximate location. Google says GA4 uses IP addresses to derive location but does not log or store those IP addresses.

The site's analytics configuration removes query strings and fragments from reported page URLs and sends only the referring site's origin. Valid campaign labels from shared links may be used for attribution. Custom interactions use fixed labels; they do not include contact details or private homelab information. Google Signals and advertising personalization are disabled in this site's tag.

Google processes this data to provide Analytics. The account also enables aggregated, de-identified modeling contributions and business insights, technical support access, and business recommendations. Sharing for Google products and services is disabled. Learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services and Analytics data sharing.

Cookies & preferences

  • Analytics cookies: after acceptance, _ga distinguishes browsers and _ga_D0SMBYT45N maintains session information. They are configured to last up to 2 years and are renewed with activity; browsers may apply shorter limits. Withdrawing permission removes them from this site.
  • Analytics choice: ew-analytics-consent in local storage remembers your accept/reject choice and its expiry for 180 days. It is used only to apply that choice.
  • Appearance: ew-color-theme in local storage remembers your selected light or dark theme. It stays in this browser until you clear it and is not sent as an analytics event. Light mode is the default when no choice is saved.

You can remove local preferences using your browser's site-data controls. See Google's explanation of Analytics cookies.

Cloudflare may also set security cookies when needed to detect automated traffic or remember a completed security challenge. These serve site security rather than Google Analytics and are independent of the analytics choice. See Cloudflare's cookie documentation.

Retention & hosting

The Analytics property is configured to retain event data for 2 months and user data for 14 months. New activity resets the user-data retention period. These settings do not determine the lifetime of cookies or most aggregated standard reports. See Google's retention guidance.

Google Firebase Hosting serves this website. Hosting processes IP addresses to deliver and protect the service and detect abuse, independently of your analytics choice. Google's documentation says Hosting retains IP data for a few months. See Firebase's privacy and security information.

The public site also uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to measure page views and page performance. Its beacon is supplied separately from Google Analytics and is not controlled by the Google Analytics choice. See Cloudflare Web Analytics.

Cloudflare sits in front of the public domain to deliver cached content and protect the site. It processes request information, including IP addresses, for delivery, security and traffic statistics, independently of optional Google Analytics. Its retention varies by service and purpose; see Cloudflare's privacy policy.

I use hosting and security services to make the portfolio available and protect it from abuse. Where applicable data-protection law requires a lawful basis, I rely on my legitimate interest in operating a reliable, secure website for this necessary processing.

Google and Cloudflare may process information on servers outside your country, including in the United States. Their privacy and data-processing documentation explains the safeguards for international transfers.

Links & questions

This website has no contact form or visitor account. Links to LinkedIn and GitHub take you to those services, whose privacy policies apply when you visit or contact me there. The Homelab map runs locally and does not contact my network.

For questions about this notice or requests concerning your information, email [email protected]. Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information, restrict or object to processing, obtain a copy, or complain to a data-protection authority. You can withdraw analytics consent at any time without affecting prior processing.
